We all are aware that mobility scooters are not just machines, they are a life line and an opportunity for independence. Nobody chooses to buy a mobility scooter unless they have to. A mobility scooter is a most valuable item to the owner and as such, they cherish and look after them.

Insurance

We all know that you can get insurance for almost everything from cars to mobile phones and even jewelry. It does seem discriminatory that people cannot get insurance for a vital piece of equipment. Across the EU and the UK, mobility scooter insurance is available at a very reasonable price.

Having this insurance can take away the worry of damaging or having your mobility scooter stolen. Most mobility scooters come with added security such as alarms, but insurance would add to a person’s peace of mind, should a scooter be stolen or badly damaged.

Cost

In addition to the cost of mobility scooters, having to replace one when you may well be on Disability Benefits, have low income or are relying on a small pension is a great worry. We urge the Government and Insurance regulators to consider the needs of mobility-challenged individuals by introducing legislation that mandates insurance coverage for mobility scooters. I feel that the refusal to offer insurance to those with mobility difficulties is discriminatory. This change will provide crucial protection and peace of mind to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

By making it a legal obligation for insurance companies to offer coverage for mobility scooters, we can alleviate the financial and emotional burdens faced by countless individuals.
